Guided Learning Through Scaffolding
Guided Learning Through Scaffolding
PseudoCoach is built on Lev Vygotsky’s idea of the Zone of Proximal Development, where students learn best when challenges are just beyond what they can do alone but achievable with the right support. The chatbot acts like training wheels, giving structured hints, nudges, and feedback. Over time, this support is gradually reduced, encouraging independence and deeper understanding rather than superficial copying.

Making Learning Effortful and Memorable
Inspired by Robert Bjork’s “desirable difficulties” and Manu Kapur’s “productive failure,” PseudoCoach ensures students wrestle with problems before receiving full solutions. This deliberate struggle strengthens recall, promotes long-term retention, and transforms mistakes into powerful learning opportunities. By combining these approaches, and drawing on Professor Sanjay Sarma’s research on AI in education, PseudoCoach doesn’t just provide answers, it builds lasting problem-solving skills and confidence in pseudocode.
